FCC Regulations For Advertising
by Abe Cherian, Multiple Stream Media. www.abecherian.com

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) receives complaints on a daily basis in regards to timing or certain ads, products or services being advertised, indecent ads, poorly written ads, and many other reasons regarding false advertising. Their influx of online forms, phone calls can be calculated by the minute from people who think their airwaves have been violated for some reason or another.

If a company or person perpetuates fraud, advertise tobacco products, promote certain lotteries, Laws restrict any station from broadcasting those materials. Even indecent or profane language is regulated by these federal laws, which are always prohibited during certain hours. These violations carry strict penalties, fines or license revocation.

For example; Pizza Hut offers on their web site a vast menu to choose from. You would think everything that's mentioned in detail on their site is available at your nearby Pizza Hut.

Just recently, their website clearly details what to order, but when a call was placed to order from the local Pizza Hut, the employee tells us that they don't offer what is explained on their website. Why is this?

An order was placed for the "bone out chicken" and the Pizza Hut employee says they don't offer this. Only regular chicken wings. Why is this?

Also, an order was placed for 2 pizza's "any way you want them" with more than three toppings, and this same employee tells us that it's above the $19.99 price for additional toppings that she will have to charge us regular price for more than three toppings. Why is this?

Do they honestly want to get into huge trouble for supplying false information on their web site when a customer can't order what they want? When their web site states they offer it?

Where can I report a false or misleading advertisement?

Any live radio or television broadcast that airs material that is false or misleading on their stations are to be reported to the Federal Communications Commission. They have strict policies that hold broadcasters responsible for keeping the community they serve with clean advertising material.

Any false or misleading advertisement that sponsors such material is to be reported to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

Urgent: Fraud Case Complaint Filing Procedure.

The following information is for you to file a complaint with any online fraud situation. Due to the number of reported cases on a daily basis, it is advised to follow the steps/options to file your complaint.

#1. Find the Attorney General's office of your State (the state you currently reside in). Look for the map located midway of the page. http://www.naag.org

Note- Contact the Attorney General of your State with your information about your case as soon as possible.

#2 File a report with the FTC - the link is below. This information is needed to shut down all operations performed by the person/business you are reporting. This information is also held confidential and will not affect you in any way. (More Info)

Note- It normally takes two reports for a complaint to take action for any web site or business to get shut down and for the investigative process to begin.

Remember to provide as much accurate information as possible when filing these reports. This will help speed up the process for your fraud case to end with positive results.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR INTERNATIONAL VICTIMS: If you reside in a country outside the United States, simply report the case to your local governing authority first, then proceed to follow the guidelines above. Report the State the fraud took place in (the scam company's address) and follow through with the information accordingly.

Final thought - Success is the result of making good decisions, good decisions come from good judgment, good judgment comes from experience, experience comes from bad judgment.
